THE THREE BISCUITEERS: CRACKING THE RIDDLE OF THE REPUBLIC OF INVERSION

Cracking the riddle of the Republic of Inversion, 3rd Republic under Hassan Sh. Mohamud, requires understanding the nature, configuration and modus operandi of the Three Biscuiteers: The Prosperity President (PP), Hassan Sh. Mohamud. The Prime Minister (PM), Farah Abdikadir. And the Prime Mamluk, Hamza A. Barre. The loyalty, camaraderie, and deep connection among the trio - although asymmetrical - is remarkably resilient and superbly efficient.  HE Hassan Mohamud is seen by many Somalis as a good President. He comes across as a good man, and for many, a fatherly figure. He always flushes his signature smile, which earned him the nick-name "Qoslaaye" the laughing one. He is charismatic, photogenic, shrewd, and has done well in terms of what he has achieved. Words and slogans come to him effortlessly, and deploys them with great ease.  However, behind the smile lurks a darker side. For the President of Somalia corruption is the engine that propels one to power, wealth and fame....

NECESSITY AND DUTY MAY COMPEL PUNTLAND STATE TO ASSUME AN OFFICIAL ROLE IN FOREIGN POLICY

The state-based global order faces a category 5 geopolitical-security hurricane which poses a compendium of threats not seen since the end of World War Two. There’s a mad scramble across the world. Every country is on a survival mode, first to weather the catastrophe relatively intact, and second to ensure that it continues to exist and remain sovereign should the entire edifice of the international system collapse and until a new global order takes shape.  Countries vary greatly, but what matters is how every nation optimally and effectively mobilizes and leverages the assets and capabilities at its disposal. National unity at home and robust foreign policy and geopolitical competence abroad are two fundamental prerequisites for survival. Unfortunately, Somalia has been mired in a protracted state of dysfunction and disunity. And the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has no capacity to control the country internally. And foreign policy and international cooperation has been an u...

I Dream of Becoming A King (A Poem)

With a Mamluk, dancing On the horns of a terrible dilemma.  I dream of becoming the King  In the country of fickle clans.  But fealty to a king and queen I know Is a proposition light years away  From the Republic of feud.  But I must not give up the dream. I failed once But twice I shall not. With a Mamluk on guard and company In good order and secure I shall move heaven and earth  Toil long and hard  At home and abroad Till the seasons align For the desert flower to bloom And a king is born And the king is me Dancing with a Mamluk. © 2025 Hassan Keynan

STOP THE ORGY OF SLAUGHTER IN ETHIOPIA BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE

It’s time for responsible African Heads of State and Government to take the nihilistic #OPDO cabal in Ethiopia and its collaborators to the International Court of Justice, #ICJ, for the war crimes perpetrated with impunity.  If Africans have any respect for Ethiopia, they ought to be clear eyed about the orgy of extermination ravaging this ancient and troubled dominion. Have African leaders no eyes and ears? Have they no shame? Entire regions/nations are being marked for total extermination not only of humans but also of livestock, farms, and the whole environment.  Ethiopia hasn’t been known for Freedom, durable peace, or social harmony. Tyranny has had deeper and deadlier roots. But it’s different this time, even by the horrendous standards of the empire of liquidation. A new species of tyranny is born, powered by hate and demonic rage, and hell-bent on destroying everything, desecrating everything. Ethiopia blossoms in gore. Genocide is already evident according to informed...

IS IT OROMIA OR ETHIOPIA OUT TO INVADE SOMALIA AND ANNEX SOMALI PORTS?

It is easy and quite natural to get upset with the latest provocations emanating from Addis Ababa. And the temptation to scramble for an immediate, gut-level response or scream is real, even irresistible.  However, it’s equally important to be clear-eyed about who are the culprits behind the provocations and the real intentions and motivations stirring them. A dispassionate, clinical diagnosis and forensic investigation and a calibrated strategic response is imperative. My unsolicited advice to the FGS and free Somalis is  1) Do not panic. Don’t rush to take a bait.  2) Ethiopia is no more. Tigray, Amhara anda much of Oromia are ravaged by war, insurgences, famine, and mass slaughter. Genocide looms large.  3) Strategize and quietly mobilize to isolate and expose the paranoid and genocidally inclined cabal of chauvanists and war criminals for who truly they are. Don’t throw them a life line by gracing them with sovereign agency and legitimate authority.  ...

DJIBOUTI AND ERITREA NEED TO NORMALIZE RELATIONS

Image
Littoral countries The imperatives of geography and history made Djibouti and Eritrea neighbors and bequeathed them strategic lands and maritime assets indispensable to global security, commerce and trade. They, together with Somalia, dominate the longest, contiguous coastline on the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. Geopolitical imperatives of the Horn of Africa call for, even compel, mutually beneficial alliance and long-term partnership. It’s time for Djibouti and Eritrea to normalize relations. A perpetual state of hostility is costly to both. A zero-sum game is infinitely worse.  A win-win option would yield optimum gain for both; and, more importantly, promote regional peace, stability and economic cooperation.  For over a century, the region has been brutalized and bankrupted by wars waged for hegemonic purposes or imperial hubris. Such foul ambitions and suprematist fantasies still animate and intoxicate new cohorts of fanaticism and extremism. But these represent the p...

The First and Only President of Somalia

Image
President Aden Abdulla Osman Aden A. Osman (MGBHS) was the First and Only President who ruled a whole, sovereign and relatively democratic Somalia. The first and only who governed and finished his term with wisdom, consensus, and diligence. The first and only who handed over power peacefully and a fairly coherent country. The first and only who lived and died in his homeland as an ordinary citizen with dignity and honor.  May the memory and legacy of the founding and first President console his beloved Somalia. Guide and enlighten the cohorts for whom fealty to the honeypot of power and foul ambition takes precedent over the solemn oaths sworn in the name of the Almighty God and in the best interest of the nation. Niger River Warns ECOWAS Hawks

Image
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its progenitor, the African Union (AU), ought to tread carefully regarding how they perceive, approach and respond to the events unfolding in Niger. The decision to impose heavy and punitive economic sanctions on Niger, with such astonishing speed and enthusiasm, was unfortunate, to put it mildly. For ECOWAS to declare a war on Niamey, coupled with incessant and cacophonous threats of an imminent and overwhelming invasion, seems beyond comprehension. What exactly do ECOWAS and AU want to achieve in Niger? At what cost? And in whose best interest?  The official statements issued by ECOWAS, and supported by the AU, mention a number of demands, including: categorical rejection of the method in which power changed hands in Niger, immediate and unconditional release of President Mohamed Bazoum,  restoration of civilian rule, and denunciation of all forms of external intervention. Some of these could be achieved relat...
