IS IT OROMIA OR ETHIOPIA OUT TO INVADE SOMALIA AND ANNEX SOMALI PORTS?

 

It is easy and quite natural to get upset with the latest provocations emanating from Addis Ababa. And the temptation to scramble for an immediate, gut-level response or scream is real, even irresistible. 

However, it’s equally important to be clear-eyed about who are the culprits behind the provocations and the real intentions and motivations stirring them. A dispassionate, clinical diagnosis and forensic investigation and a calibrated strategic response is imperative.

My unsolicited advice to the FGS and free Somalis is 

1) Do not panic. Don’t rush to take a bait. 

2) Ethiopia is no more. Tigray, Amhara anda much of Oromia are ravaged by war, insurgences, famine, and mass slaughter. Genocide looms large. 

3) Strategize and quietly mobilize to isolate and expose the paranoid and genocidally inclined cabal of chauvanists and war criminals for who truly they are. Don’t throw them a life line by gracing them with sovereign agency and legitimate authority. 

4) Presidents and senior executive and legislative officials of the #FGS have a duty to address the nation and solemnly and publicly disclose what they know and any agreement they entered into, were privy to or of aware without equivocation or reservation. Feigning ignorance or outrage is not only wrong and unacceptable. It is also a shameless and unforgivable breach of public trust, as well as an egregious insult to the intelligence and dignity of an entire nation, individually and collectively. 

5) If they refuse the relevant Federal Parliamentary Committee MUST summon them and ask questions. If they refuse, they must be stripped of any Immunity they may have. A start preparing a case against them and hold them accountable. No amount of deceitful propaganda, fake patriotism, or juvenile apologist formations could absolve any leader of the burden of responsibility and oath.

6) Regularly Monitor military action and formations crossing Somalia’s borders, land, air, and maritime. And respond accordingly. 

7) Work quietly and deligently to call for an urgent meeting of the AU, IGAD EAC, and UN Security Council. The current Chairman of IGAD is the President of Djibouti. This therefore ought be easy and quick. UK and UN-SRSG for Somalia shall clarify their positions using appropriate channels. Warn  of a new species of extremism and ethnic chauvanism of fascist ilk menacing and wreaking havoc in Ethiopia and the peace and stability of the Horn of Africa. 

8)  help Organize campaigns -petitions, X-Space, special presentations - aimed at proposing a new Headquarters for the African Union. Addis Ababa can no longer be a neutral Capital for the AU. Mr Moussa faki Mahamat is corrupt and irredeemably compromised. 

9) Call all Somali ambassadors and diplomats abroad for briefing and consultation. 

10) Refrain from publicly blaming any region, group in Somalia and under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government of Somalia. Stay focused on the imperatives of sovereign matters and International law.
