A Great Victory Coupled With a Formidable Challenge

H. E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has acquired a great victory coupled with a formidable challenge. 

The victory is he went through a protracted, hard and heavily consequential election. And he won decisively as President of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The fact that he was the first President elected twice made the victory a very special one, furnishing  him with a renewed sense of inspiration , energy and enthusiasm. And at the same time earning him a rare measure of trust and confidence from an exhausted, traumatized and desperate people. 

The challenge for H E Hassan Mohamud is to find and get hold of the country he was elected to govern. This is a formidable challenge of immense complexity rarely matched in the history of statecraft in post-colonial Africa, even beyond. It easy to assume or take for granted that a President always has a coherent country or state. Juridically this may true. However, in actual reality, this is far from being a certainty in many parts of the world. 

President Hassan Mohamud and his team have just begun the immensely difficult task of finding, securing, and healing the Federal Republic of Somalia. 

They need and deserve goodwill, cooperation, and prayers from Somalis, friendly countries and relevant international organizations.

May the guidance and blessings of God the Almighty accompany them every step in this long and hard journey.

Niger River Warns ECOWAS Hawks

  The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its progenitor, the African Union (AU), ought to tread carefully regarding how they perceive, approach and respond to the events unfolding in Niger. The decision to impose heavy and punitive economic sanctions on Niger, with such astonishing speed and enthusiasm, was unfortunate, to put it mildly. For ECOWAS to declare a war on Niamey, coupled with incessant and cacophonous threats of an imminent and overwhelming invasion, seems beyond comprehension. What exactly do ECOWAS and AU want to achieve in Niger? At what cost? And in whose best interest?  The official statements issued by ECOWAS, and supported by the AU, mention a number of demands, including: categorical rejection of the method in which power changed hands in Niger, immediate and unconditional release of President Mohamed Bazoum,  restoration of civilian rule, and denunciation of all forms of external intervention.   President Aden Abdulla Osman Aden A. Osman (MGBHS) was the First and Only President who ruled a whole, sovereign and relatively democratic Somalia. The first and only who governed and finished his term with wisdom, consensus, and diligence. The first and only who handed over power peacefully and a fairly coherent country. The first and only who lived and died in his homeland as an ordinary citizen with dignity and honor.  May the memory and legacy of the founding and first President console his beloved Somalia. Guide and enlighten the cohorts for whom fealty to the honeypot of power and foul ambition takes precedent over the solemn oaths sworn in the name of the Almighty God and in the best interest of the nation.
