Why Does Human Dignity Elude the Cradle of Humanity?

Why is a continent
Whose strategic assets
Propel global power and wealth
Unable to feed its own people?
What can grow in Ukraine but can’t in Africa?

Why has freedom
Utterly forsaken 
The Abode of first humans?
It has gone where?
Where has it found asylum and permanent home?

The teeming young Africans
Perishing in the inhospitable Sahara
In droves
Or being entombed alive 
In the dark depths of the Mediterranean 
And Red Sea
Are going where?

The African youth
Are chasing what
In their desperate and perilous journey up north?
Why does Human dignity elude
The cradle of humanity?

Surely, something is amiss
Something is missing or utterly broken.

Surely, something ought to be in the works
Murmuring and rumbling
In the deep and expansive bosom
Of the sleeping giant.

Africa’s threshold for pain and humiliation
Self-inflicted or otherwise
Is unmatched.
Its resilience legendary.
But it has been long and hard.

Something ought to be in the works
To broker the breaking of a new dawn
A dawn that will give the cradle of humanity
A break and fair chance
To scramble for a new beginning.

Niger River Warns ECOWAS Hawks

  The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its progenitor, the African Union (AU), ought to tread carefully regarding how they perceive, approach and respond to the events unfolding in Niger. The decision to impose heavy and punitive economic sanctions on Niger, with such astonishing speed and enthusiasm, was unfortunate, to put it mildly. For ECOWAS to declare a war on Niamey, coupled with incessant and cacophonous threats of an imminent and overwhelming invasion, seems beyond comprehension. What exactly do ECOWAS and AU want to achieve in Niger? At what cost? And in whose best interest?  The official statements issued by ECOWAS, and supported by the AU, mention a number of demands, including: categorical rejection of the method in which power changed hands in Niger, immediate and unconditional release of President Mohamed Bazoum,  restoration of civilian rule, and denunciation of all forms of external intervention. The first and only who governed and finished his term with wisdom, consensus, and diligence. The first and only who handed over power peacefully and a fairly coherent country. The first and only who lived and died in his homeland as an ordinary citizen with dignity and honor.  May the memory and legacy of the founding and first President console his beloved Somalia. Guide and enlighten the cohorts for whom fealty to the honeypot of power and foul ambition takes precedent over the solemn oaths sworn in the name of the Almighty God and in the best interest of the nation.
